ABOUT US
The Upside Down Bar & Restaurant is located in the historical wing of the art’otel Berlin Mitte, the Ermelerhaus, a 17th century Rococo building boasting ornate, high ceilings and a small courtyard as well as original artworks by Georg Baselitz.
The Upside Down Bar is dominated by a series of original “Upside Down” paintings and works by Baselitz – inspiring the theme of the bar. In the 1970s, Baselitz was part of a group of Neo-Expressionist German artists, focusing on deformation, the power of subject and the vibrancy of the colors. Many of Baselitz’s paintings are deliberately painted upside down, distorting the classical viewing of the subject matter.
This theme is reflected across the design of bar and highlight colours from individual works have been reflected in the furnishings and finishes.
The classic upright cocktail bar looks over a casual dining area of low seating in teal blue and gold.

Inspired by the Mediterranean cuisine, the Upside Down Bar & Restaurant’s drinks & cocktails offer a great selection to be enjoyed in elegant and stylish surroundings. Order some “Bits & Bites” Tapas style from our menu to share or as a snack to your drinks. The menu follows the current “zero waste” trend towards reducing packaging waste and dealing with food responsibly. Signature cocktails include refreshing Spritzes, the Scotch Thyme and Berlin Passion, as well as classics and a diverse wine list.
